PETALING JAYA: Although the haze has returned to parts of Malaysia, the Department of Environment (DOE) said that 10 areas registered good air quality and the rest of the areas had moderate quality.

As of 11am yesterday, it said that only Port Klang registered unhealthy air quality.

DOE director-general Datuk Rosnani Ibarahim, in a statement, said that 94 hotspots were detected in Wilayah Riau, Sumatra, and 58 hotspots in West Kalimantan on Friday.

“As many as nine hotspots were also detected in Malaysia, in Selangor and Pahang.”

She also said that visibility in many areas was good, registering over 10km.

However, the Meteorological Services Department website stated that visibility in Sepang was reduced to 1km at 4pm.

The website also said visibility in Kuantan, Petaling Jaya and Subang was at 4km then.

In Putrajaya, the federal administrative capital was shrouded in haze again despite a 15-minute heavy downpour yesterday afternoon.

Cyberjaya Fire and Rescue Department Officer Asst Supt Husin Abdullah said firemen stationed to douse peat fires in Cyberpark since Monday have been recalled as the fires have been put out.

The peat fires had caused thick smoke here and in the surrounding areas in the past few days.
