Abstract:
This chapter sets out in detail the provisions for Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation (REDD+) that have been negotiated and agreed upon at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change international negotiations. It raises concerns about the ability of tropical rainforest countries to adopt and implement the REDD+ provisions agreed upon, including the REDD+ safeguards. The chapter then focuses on a range of legal institutions which are necessary for ensuring the legitimacy of REDD+.
