Jakarta. Malaysia has tipped deployment of its aerial waterbomber to douse Sumatra-based fires after haze was spotted in Kuala Lumpur last week.

"We are prepared to send our Bombardier aircraft to Sumatra to help put out the forest fires that have been responsible for the cross-border haze," Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Shahidan Kassim said on Sunday (21/08), as reported by local news.

Malaysia volunteered the use of the aircraft during last year's record-breaking haze crisis, which reached as far as Thailand and killed dozens in Kalimantan and Sumatra.

The minister has reportedly been in touch with Indonesian counterparts and is awaiting a formal request before deploying the aircraft.

Last week, Malaysia's Environment Minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said haze had returned to the country, despite Indonesian efforts to alleviate the crisis, local media reported. The minister promised to write a letter to his Indonesian counterpart on the issue.
