Introduction

The Climate Change, Forests and Peatlands in Indonesia (CCFPI) project’s draft workplan for 2003-2004 was submitted to the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) in March 2003.

Background Information

Project Background

Project Name: Climate Change, Forests and Peatlands in Indonesia
Project Number: 7018008
Canadian Implementing Organization: Wildlife Habitat Canada (WHC)
Indonesian Partner: Wetlands International – Indonesia Programme (WI-IP)
Total Project Budget: $3,900,000. August 2001 – March 2005

Project Goal: Sustainable management of Indonesia’s globally important peatlands in order to improve the livelihoods of current and future generations, maintain and increase carbon storage, and conserve biodiversity.

Project Purpose: To enhance management of two peatland areas in Indonesia and national capacity to participate in evolving climate change mitigation initiatives in order to promote sustainable community livelihoods, and carbon storage and sequestration.

Workplan Background

The purpose of this workplan is to outline the CCFPI project’s program of activities and budget for the period April 2003 – March 2004.

The workplan was prepared over a period from February 3, 2003 to February 27, 2003. Project team members and supporting experts visited project field sites in both Central Kalimantan and Sumatra (for the composition of the team and schedule of visits, see Appendix 1). The core project team then met in Bogor to compile information gathered during the site visits, and prepare the workplan and annual report.

This report consists of six sections, plus supporting appendices. Following this background section, section three looks at key contextual factors which are expected to affect the project over the workplan period. Section four turns to specific results that the project expects to achieve. Section five focuses on project management. Section six presents both the output and input budget for the period. Section seven discusses risks the project might face over the next year, and proposes mitigation strategies.
