REVIEW OF REGIONAL HAZE SITUATION IN ASEAN REGION (March 2022)

The ASEAN region continued to be influenced by Northeast Monsoon conditions in March 2022. Dry conditions persisted over the Mekong sub-region throughout the month. Elsewhere in the ASEAN region, rainy weather was observed in many areas. However, by end of the month, dry condition started to develop in parts of Sumatra and Borneo.

Prolonged dry conditions over the ASEAN region led to an increase of hotspot activity in March 2022. Dense smoke and transboundary haze were detected in many parts of the Mekong sub-region. Overall, the hotspot count in ASEAN were generally lower this year compared to previous years. However, the hotspot count in the southern ASEAN region were higher compared to previous years contributed by the significant increase of hotspots detected in Sumatera and Kalimantan.
